For the creation of a play to be brought to high schools and colleges to spark discussion on the gender bias in american science, and the importance of science education. [Read]
While writing plays are a way I choose to express myself, I see conferences and grants as a way to present myself.
In, "On the Weekly...", presented at the Mid-American Theater Conference in March 2009, I spoke of the model for weekly new works currently at Ohio University (Midnight Madness), and used that model as a backdrop to talk about the importance of risk and failure in theatre. [read]
In 'For the creation...", I outlined a grant to write a play chronicaling the lives and relationships of 19th Century Mathematicians/Scientists/Inventors Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace. The play focuses on Lovelace, who could have been a world-renowned Mathematician if she had been born male. I would use this play and accompanying research packet as a way to talk to high school and college students about the importance of science education, and the gender bias which exists in all fields of American sciences.
